Our Church Family

Modesto Baptist Church has been gathering to worship Christ for nearly two hundred years. We began on November 14, 1829, when five believers on the Illinois prairie organized the Apple Creek Baptist Church of Jesus Christ, Friends to Humanity. From its earliest church book, the congregation refused membership to anyone holding to perpetual slavery. Over the generations, the church outlasted a fire set by outlaws in 1847, moved into Modesto in 1907, and rebuilt after a tornado destroyed its building in 1917. Today we are a Southern Baptist congregation that exists to glorify our great God and Savior, Jesus Christ, and to build up His saints through the preaching and teaching of His Word (Titus 2:13; Ephesians 4:13). Each Sunday we gather at 9:30 AM for Sunday School for adults and children, followed by worship at 10:15 AM, and on Wednesdays at 6:00 PM we meet for prayer and Bible study. Whether you’ve lived in Modesto all your life or are just passing through, you’re welcome here, and we’d be glad to meet you.

Modesto Baptist Church exists to glorify our great God and Savior, Jesus Christ, and to build up His saints through the preaching and teaching of His Word, maturing to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ. (Ti. 2:13; Eph. 4:13)
